Sometimes you just need a BREAK!! Taking a few months off has been great and much needed! I have to admit it is really hard to get back to working! But my hubby says it's time to bring in some more $$ :) Hope you all have enjoyed your summer so far. So hard to believe the kids will be back into school soon. My oldest turned 18in June!! My youngest turns 1o in August and my middle daughter turned 16... YEAH.. life is flying by! I have been working on some new graphics. This fall I will be posting giveaways again. My goal is to have the website back up in August with some new items... stay tuned...

A Blessed Easter!!

I am enjoying a little time off. This summer I will be creating new graphics for the holiday season and 2011. This break is much needed as when you get burned out creativity just does not happen! We are enjoying beautiful near 80 degree temps in Michigan!! Our normal Easter weather consists of cold and wet so we are really enjoying it! I hope you have a lovely Easter!! I will be back as soon as I can.

My Favorite Cookies to make:

1 Box of Ritz Crackers
4 large Hershey chocolate Bars
Jar of peanut Butter

Melt the Hershey bars... if you use the microwave to melt choclate melt on low heat and add a little Crisco.. this helps to keep it from burning While the chocolate is melting you can prepare the crackers..

place peanut butter between two crackers and set aside.. repeat :)

Once chocolate is melted dip the sandwiched crackers into the chocolate... I use a spoon to cover the cracker and a fork to remove it from the chocolate.

place on cookie sheet with wax paper to harden.. may want to put in fridge. They are YUMMY and won't last long!!

Also these are so GOOD

2 pkgs. (6 oz.) butterscotch chips
1 (1 1/2 oz.) can potato sticks
2 tbsp. peanut butter
1 can (6 oz.) Spanish peanuts

Melt morsels and peanut butter. Stir in potato sticks and peanuts. Drop by teaspoon on waxed paper. Let stand overnight.

Movie

Regarding my recommendation below... if you have little children or children who scare easily this movie will not be for them. There are a few funny scenes in the movie but Disney really kept to the true story from the book so there are a lot of parts that would be scary. We took our 9 year old and even he said there were a few scary parts.

This weekend we went to see Disney's A Christmas Carol 3D with Jim Carrey. Now I tend to be very nostalgic at this time of year... I just love watching movies in this time period. Disney did a great job with this movie and stayed true to the original story. The movie was just amazing...I didn't want it to end!

Have you heard of ghosting? We started ghosting in our neighborhood a few years ago and it has been started by someone every year since. If you have several children in your neighborhood they will really enjoy the fun!

Pick two neighbors to ghost...buy some treats and put them in a decorative bag or plastic pumpkin... at night sneak up and place the treats on the porch.. knock or ring the doorbell and RUN. place the ghosting letter and ghost picture along with the treats..this will provide them with the info they need to play along.

It's been awhile...hope you all had a great summer!! The weather here was wonderful...I think we only had to use the air for 5 days this year! My kind of weather...I just hate the heat.

Hello my friends!

I wish you all a very patriotic 4th of July.

Despite what the media and many political figures would have you believe America is the greatest country on earth!

Over the past few years I have become increasingly frustrated with our government and the little worth they have placed on our founding documents! On April 15th my husband and I attended a Tea Party at our capital building in Lansing, MI. We were told it was the largest protest in Lansing and close to 5,000 people were there. It was great to be with like minded people... people that love this country and want it to return to the values that made it great. People that love our constitution but see our government falling away from it. I have NEVER been politically active...just watched the news and figured someone would fix it. But it has come to a point where I feel that I must get involved. You know one of my greatest fears is that my children will live in fear of their governement... I loved growing up in this country... I loved being free... I want that for my children..I want them to have a life better than mine...and I want that for all of our future generations. If you are feeling frustrated... if you are worried that your children or grandchildren will not have the same freedoms that you have had then I encourage you to get involved in some way. Maybe try attending a tea party... maybe you could run for a office...I know the tea party movement is growing and they are looking for volunteers... I donated my services to create a website for our local group. I feel we need to stop listening to the media... think for ourselves... read good books... learn about history.. it is so important! Teach history to our children because I can tell you right now... they are not getting the truth in most schools today. If you feel the same as me.. you are NOT alone... I truly believe most Americans feel the same as we do. This is NOT a democrat or republican issue.. this is our government as a whole... it has truly gotten out of control. Our government is printing so much money that I fear we are heading for a depression. You just can't print that much money and it not affect the value of the dollar.. look at this fact

Did you know that the Cap and Trade bill will cause our energy prices to "necessarily skyrocket" in President Obamas exact words.
The cap and trade bill will require homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient before it Can be sold...can you imagine that?
The Cap and Trade bill is 1,400 pages and was never read by anyone that voted on it.

Contact your representatives when this goes before the senate.

Well...I am in Michigan and we had a warm up on Sat... near 80 but today it is freezing! The buds on the trees are beginning to open.. I just LOVE when everything starts to turn green... it is so refreshing! I have noticed that the flowers are blooming later than usual... my tulips and forsythia have not yet bloomed... usually they bloom well before the tree buds start to open but this year that has not been the case.

Every year I have big plans....this Christmas I am going to do this or that...and every year it's the same story. This year I didn't even get out my Christmas cards! Tomorrow my sister and her family arrives and we will be having dinner and all the usual get-together festivities.

Our tree...I love the reflection in the windows when it's dark!

My Christmas village our cat keeps sitting in the snow and making a mess.

I hung paper snowflakes that the girls and I cut out on our TV stand which is an old dresser my Uncle found in the trash and gave to my Mom...she gave it to me for Mothers Day 2 years ago because I kept saying how much I loved it :)

Hoping to get more pics posted soon...my camera is broke so I am using my daughters and I don't care for it at all!

It was Thanksgiving, and for the first time our whole family was together.

It was Thanksgiving, and for the first time our whole family was together. Mom and Dad had to drive all night just to get here, but boy was it worth it! The Grandsters really know how to do it up right. The Grandsters being Grandpa and Grandma. We were all seated at the table, and I couldn't wait to dive into those mashed potatoes and gravy. And the smell of the turkey -- I thought I was going to faint with happiness.

"What's that, Mindy?" demanded my little cousin Sam. He can be such a pain. He is 8 years old, two years younger than I am.

"What's what?" I asked.

He pointed to a little paper cup containing just three kernels of corn beside Grandpa's plate. I opened my mouth to answer and then realized I didn't know. Ugh! How I hate admitting that I don't know something!

Grandma answered, "It is to pay tribute to the Pilgrims."

"But why three kernels?" asked the always curious Sam. Give it a rest, I thought.

Grandpa answered, "It reminds me of what a tough time the Pilgrims had. In the beginning, three kernels of corn was each person's daily food ration." The table got real quiet after he said that.

Grandpa continued, "Against all odds, they made a life for themselves in the wilderness. Let's talk more about it after dinner."

Sure enough, dinner was over and Sam wanted to know more.

" Squanto taught the Pilgrims to grow corn!" Sam exclaimed. He's never going to forget that -- he played Squanto in the Thanksgiving Day play at school.

"That's right," Grandpa said. "But at first the Pilgrims were terrified of the Indians, as they called them. Then one day a tribesman named Samoset ventured into their encampment. He was tall and dark and by many accounts quite handsome. Loudly and plainly he proclaimed, 'Welcome!' in perfect English."

"The Pilgrims must have freaked!" shouted Sam.

Grandpa laughed and agreed. "I'm sure you're right. He had learned the language from English fishermen. For the Pilgrims, life was a constant battle for survival. Later, Governor William Bradford made a decision. Instead of the colonists sharing their crops equally, he assigned a parcel of land to each family and told them they could keep whatever they produced for themselves."

"Then what happened?" asked Sam.

"At last the Pilgrims began to prosper. Governor William Bradford wrote in his book 'Of Plimoth Plantation,' 'This had very good success, for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.' "

"Shoot! If you can keep everything you make, of course you're going to work harder. Everybody knows that."

Grandpa answered, "The first seed had been planted for the American Revolution. People were free to practice their religions as they saw fit and were free to keep the fruits of their labor. This had never happened before in the history of mankind. In the words of William Bradford, 'As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation.' "

"That William Bradford sounds like a pretty cool guy," said Sam.

"He was a pretty cool guy," Grandpa said with a chuckle.

I live in Michigan and we are just starting to see a little color. This weekend we took a little drive to Hidden Lake Gardens. A beautiful garden and conservatory maintained by Michigan State University.

Well, tomorrow we start school. For those who don't know… we homeschool our 3 children. Tomorrow will be a big day as we had the long weekend...computer work is getting behind and the house is a disaster.
We received a pool from our next door neighbors who told us they would be moving. We have been working on moving this pool for the past month except for one day! Seriously, we have been outside every evening and weekend. First, we moved the millions of rocks that were around the base of the pool :) Then we took off the deck around the pool (it's a Kayak) ...next we removed more rocks from under the deck... a lot of rocks!!! Then we drained the water and removed the liner... OOPS liner cracked at bottom...so....we ordered a new liner.
Now the pool is ready to move...thanks to some friends..neighbors.. and my brother for bringing his hockey team we were able to move the base of the pool in one piece AHHHHH.
Now, our yard is a mess...the neighbor’s yard is a mess but the pool is moved..and after two weeks we have the deck back on...the liner installed and filling with water. This project has been way bigger than we anticipated but next year we will be happy about it….RIGHT?
I have had to really buck up and work hard... I HATE the heat...I really HATE the heat...the sun hits me and my body temp goes up 20degrees tee hee.
My floors are covered with sand and dirt…between shoes and dogs it is a constant mess to clean up. OK I’m NOT complaining…just sharing what my life has been like and why I have not posted.
I have found the blog thing difficult. I think the biggest reason is because I work on the computer so much. When I’m done with work I want to do something else…not sit here and type. So…when you stop by and see it’s been awhile you’ll know why.
Off to shower and bed…tomorrow I am going to announce the two free template winners.

Kettle Corn Anyone??

Last month we went to a amusement park for our daughters B-day. There was a kettle corn vendor so of course we bought some and it was delicious! I have tried the kettle corn for microwave popping and it's pretty good but not at all as good as you get when you go to parks and carnivals. WELL...I found a recipe to share
Sorry my pics are so blurry...I had to use my cell ♥
What you will need:
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
salt to taste
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup veg oil
at least 3quart pan with lid (something you can put in dishwasher)
a larger pan or bowl
measuring cups
wooden spoon

Step one
gather your ingredients because you have to move quickly

Measure out 1/4 cup sugar and place into a 1 cup measuring cup. Now, measure your 1/2 cup kernels and pour into the measuring cup holding the sugar so that the sugar is on bottom and kernels on top. This allows you to work quickly and avoid burns.

Put the 1/4 cup of oil into your pan along with 3 kernels and place on burner. Set temp to mid-high depending on your stove...a little lower is better than higher.

Place lid on your pan and listen for the 3 kernels to pop...be careful...I was impatient and regretted it :) When you hear all 3 pops take off lid

Now quickly pour the popcorn/sugar into pan and place lid back on

Place pan on burner...now here is the tricky part... leave pan on burner for 3 seconds ...lift off burner and shake pan back and forth for 3 seconds...continue to do this...be patient...it takes a few minutes to start popping...it's better to go slow to avoid the sugar and popcorn burning to bottom.

Continue to shake and place on burner until popping significantly slows...remove from heat and let set on another burner until all popping stops.
remove lid

Now, pour popcorn into a larger bowl or pot and sprinkle with salt.
Take a wooden spoon and stir the salt in. As you stir break up pieces that are stuck together..this will also allow for the unpopped kernels to go to the bottom of pan.

Tastes best if you let it sit for just a few minutes and cool before eating
I had a lot of unpopped kernels the first time I made it...I just was not leaving it on burner long enough.

I DID NOT KNOW THIS!!

I hope I'm not the only one.

I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember.

Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain.

You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box.

Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over.

The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you.

Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box.

Written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end".

Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place.

How long has this little locking tab been there?

I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too.

I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too!

I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.

I'm sharing this with my friends that did not know this. If you all ready know this, delete this message and don't e-mail me and make me feel dumber than I already feel. If you didn't know this, e-mail me and let me know so I won't feel so dumb. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.

All of my boxes have the tab...even my grocery brand aluminum foil...it did not say to push in to lock but the tabs were there...I used saran wrap today and for the first time it was easy LOL!

SO...I'm curious...did any of you know about this?

I am Cathi Basler and have had the privilege of being able to do something I love to support my children in college. I sell old photos on ebay and my store's name is Chatham Ho Treasures. It is named after my great great grandfather whose wife I was named after. Throughout my life,I have collected and loved old photos. I have always just loved the beauty of photography and images from long ago. Sometimes it might be a look, the way the light hits a person, or the clothing that is worn, or even the subject matter, but each treasure I try to list has an element of beauty from days gone by. What I find unique about old photos is that sometimes it is the image that strikes you and it is simply a piece of art. Then other times, you are drawn to wonder what these people were like, how did they live and what lessons did they learn, and you find that they almost become a distant relative. But I guess the most important thing to me about old photos are that they reflect God's art, looking at faces and images of people that are each completely one of a kind and unique and never to be seen exactly the same again. It is through looking at things like this, that helps us be grateful for those that came before us, and hopefully by learning from them, we make the world just a little bit better.

My husband is not very good at ordering at the drive-thru...he is so worried about being quick and curteous to the person taking the order that he often orders the wrong items and you can forget special orders! :)

Saturday after my daughters fast she said she really wanted a Mocha Frappuccino. My husband dropped me off at the grocery store and took her to Starbucks for her treat. He says to Abby....now I don't know anything about this 1/2caf grande language so do you know what you want?? do you want to go in or drive thru? My daughter told him...yes, all you have to say is Mocha Frappuccino
soo...they pull up to window and he says... yes, I would like a Mocha Cappuccino
my daughters says NO...FRappuccino... he says to the person taking order... oh wait...Crappuccino
(guy taking order... excuse me?) hubby says... Crappuccino...my daughter says DADDY FRAPPUCCINO.....(guy taking order...laughing...says frappuccino??) needless to say we laughed all the way home :)

Thank you for your prayers! My husband arrived safely in South Africa. He went on a safari last weekend and another tomorrow. He is staying at a lovely Inn you can check it out...looks very interesting. You can also view some other images here the wedding setup looks lovely. Me..well...not much! Working on my site takes up much of my time. I am adding new site graphics...working on new templates...and just updating my site for the new year.

Also, I have made a decision to change my name The Vintage Rooster is now~Graphic Pretties. www.graphicpretties.com and www.thevintagerooster.com will still take you to my site but the new name is now in effect. I hope you all like it! It was a hard decision but I feel the new name is less limiting and sometimes you just need to change.

Went to PA for Christmas…here is the scoop ….

Saturday I didn’t do much (big mistake) Sunday morning 9 am our power goes out due to strong winds… UH OH…why did I wait to do laundry and prepare (AGAIN) ???

Called power company….”your estimated time of power restoration is 10 hours”. Ok, I tell myself…you will just be up late getting things done….could not go to church because we couldn’t get ready…which stinks as it is the Sunday before Christmas!

Went out for awhile to warm up came back home to check on pets…called power company… “your estimated time of power restoration is 6 hours” cool…it’s going down…may have to wait until 10pm tonight but that’s ok.

Went to my parents house for a while to warm up again. Went to dinner looking pretty bad with bad hair and no make up…by this time it is 8pm…. Called electric co from the cell… “Your estimated time of power restoration is 2 hours” cool…still looks like 10.

Went home plugged into the neighbors generator so we could at least watch a little TV…10 pm called electric co. “DTE is aware of the situation but all previous power restoration estimates are void” GRRRRR we did stay here all night and it was cold!…woke up early threw what clean clothes we had in the suit case and got out of here….thankfully for the pets the power did come on about 2 hours after we left. We did have a nice

visit in PA …we stayed at a hotel near my sisters house with my parents. Jacob got to swim which he LOVES to do! Spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day at my sisters and headed back home Christmas afternoon..

The rest of the week we spent getting ready for hubby’s family to come over to house home for their family Christmas that is always the Saturday after Christmas. We have been refinishing our kitchen cabinets, which has been a lot more work than anticipated. I painted the kitchen and made curtains the previous week but we had much to get finished before Saturday and worked constantly for 3 days…but hey…the kitchen is almost done J.

New Years day was spent traveling to pick up the puppy my daughter purchased with her own hard earned money. We chose a cockapoo…we currently have a golden retriever who is 11 years and decided to go with a smaller breed that does not shed.
She is sooooooo adorable but boy is she a lot of work! She is 8 weeks today. We are training her and she is doing really well…I think she will be a real good dog!
Here are some pics:

We have had two pretty big snow falls …usually we don’t get snow until after Christmas…but today it is in the 50’s …crazy!
We had a real heavy snowfall, which is so beautiful when the trees are covered!

Hubby gets off Christmas Eve through New Years so we get really out of our routine during that time! This is the first week that things are somewhat normal and it feels good!!

Well, it's December and I have not done any shopping or decorating yet! We are still finishing up our kitchen remodel which is taking FOREVER!

I wanted to post some tips for template use

If you notice your no right click is not working, your back gackground is missing, or you have a flash logo that is not showing up any longer this could be why:
Once you set up your template and add it to ebay HTML box don't switch back to STANDARD to preview it...this changes the template code and on some of the templates they do not appear correctly.
I recommend this practiceboard for setting up your templates http://htmledit.squarefree.com/
but if you have a template with music you may have problems typing the wording into your template...if that is the case try this practiceboard instead http://practicewriter.com/
Have you chaged your ebay id? This means your buttons will no longer work correctly and need to be updated...let me know if you need help.

I WILL BE GETTING A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!!! I HATE TO DO THIS BUT I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE...BE LOOKING FOR MY NOTICE OF EMAIL CHANGE.

It's Almost December!

WOW where is the time going? I can't believe it is almost December and the end of another year! I always think about when I was a child the time span from putting up the tree to waiting for Christmas morning seemed like an ETERNITY and now it is just a few very short weeks!

Have you all started decorating? Normally I would have my boxes of decorations down from the attic by now BUT we are redecorating our kitchen and I just can't bring myself to create more of a mess for myself at this point. I have lots to do before the decorations come out so pray that I get a big boost of energy :)

On top of that I have so many things I would like to start offering...business cards...banners...and so much more dance around in my head but I just can't find the time...maybe 2008?? :)

Wow time is flying by! I am finally feeling better and getting caught up. Have a few new templates listed and will be adding more this week. I am also going to start offering business cards very soon.

OK... so, I did receive that book I was waiting for...it is full of beautiful pictures and wonderful ideas! I have it sitting on my book shelf so I can look at it often. I received another box in the mail on the same day...it was the soaps I ordered from Doreen... WOW they are wonderful......check them out by clicking HERE.

I have to admit I am enjoying this cold weather...I have my candle lit and loaded a bunch of Christmas music to my ipod ... :) This is such a wonderful time of year...everything about it is just homey feeling and I love it! Hope you all are enjoying it also!

Here we go.......... I have been asked by several customers about Blogs...how can I give advice if I don't have one? I have thought about starting a blog for several months but then I asked myself... "will people actually read this?" HA

Not sure how often I will post or add things. Afraid this will take time away from things I should be doing:)

I love this time of year! The weather...the feel...the smell...gearing up for that holiday season!

Oh...I just purchased a cool book on ebay

I saw it at Barnes and Noble yesterday came home and found it on ebay for 1/2 price...woo hoo! I can't wait to receive it. I love looking at holiday magazines and books....I especially love vintage Christmas decor!! It brings back many memories of my childhood.

It's Monday already. The weeks FLY by! This weekend we had a lot of family time. We went to the mall for most of the day on Saturday. Sunday we went to church and right after church Barnes and Noble. Yesterday afternoon we went bowling ....I am NOT a good bowler. It was a beautiful weekend!

We are working on my "office area". Since we homeschool our house is in need of some storage solutions! Paper and such build up so quickly! Hubby is going to build some bookshelves and desk area. We will be spending lots of time at Ikea and Home Depot over the next few weeks but something must be done.

OK..... I am liking this already!
